Enhancing the Resilience of Community Social Services in Responding to the Impacts of Climate Change

The goal of this project is to enhance the resilience of British Columbia’s Community Social Services sector in responding to the impacts of climate change, as reflected in the following three aims:

  1. Conduct a baseline assessment and preliminary systems analysis of the current readiness of Federation of Community Social Service member organizations.
  2. Develop a climate change readiness community of practice within the membership of the Federation.
  3. Construct a climate change roadmap for Federation organizations’ use in taking action that enhances their resilience in responding to the impacts of climate change.

The community social services sector has long-standing, well established and constructive relationships with communities across the province, as service providers and sources of information, as well as, in some instances, community-based education. These organizations also have functioning relationships that relate to community climate change resilience with other organizations in their communities such as local BC government teams, hospitals, community centres and municipal governments. Stage 1 funding has been provided by the Federation of Community Social Services of BC.
