Neighbourhood in the 21st Century Exhibit

Neighbourhood in the 21st Century Exhibit

The Neighbourhood in the 21st Century exhibit showcases the effects of climate change on neighbourhoods through science-based content presented in engaging art installations. The exhibit also provides practical actions that communities can take to mitigate climate impacts, such as those related to extreme heat, wildfire smoke, atmospheric rain, and food insecurity.

The exhibit will open this fall at Arbutus Neighbourhood House. The neighbourhood house setting assures continuity of engagement as the neighbourhood comes together to build and enact its own climate response plan.

Visitors to the exhibit are also introduced to the perspectives of children and youth, with Fraser Academy students contributing powerful narratives and visual imagery to the exhibit that express their views of the world, both present and future. Follow-up workshops and events associated with the exhibit provide visitors with opportunities to engage further and learn more.

Staff from The Climate Museum of New York and Museum of Vancouver are advising the development of Neighbourhood in the 21st Century, as well as Vancouver architects and city planners, Marta Farevaag and Jackie Forbes-Roberts.

Neighbourhood in the 21st Century is designed to be a highly interactive event structured around nine dimensions of neighbourhood life:

  • 04 – Energy
