Neighbourhood in the 21st Century Exhibit

Neighbourhood in the 21st Century Exhibit

The Neighbourhood in the 21st Century exhibit is planned as the kick-off event to celebrate the opening of the Climate Response Centre. It will run for the first ten days after the Centre opens. The theme of this event is tagged “Weaving the Change: Making Our Future Together”. The exhibit will present a view of a climate change ready future in neighbourhoods and offer ideas and practical steps to make this happen. It is largely informed by the very successful launch of The Climate Museum of New York.

In particular Neighbourhood in the 21st Century is designed to be a highly interactive and visual event. Co-designed with the Fraser Academy the exhibit will be structured around nine dimensions of neighbourhood life. These nine dimensions are:

  • Habitat
  • Food Systems and waste management
  • Mobility
  • Energy
  • Safety
  • Connection and belonging
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Live-long learning
  • Arts and culture

Fraser Academy and GTEC will co-design banners for the nine dimensions and develop a mural for the exhibit and additional displays. This exhibit will be open to the public at the Climate Response Centre pop-up in the Arbutus Neighborhood House.

During and after this exhibit there will be a series of 5-8 climate response events such as workshops and entertainment/cultural events. More information will be available as the details about these events develop.

Currently participating organizations for this event include: Arbutus Neighbourhood House, Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, Salt Spring Seeds, The Federation of Community Social Services of BC, Be the Change Earth Alliance, Vancouver Arts Colloquium Society, Museum of Vancouver and The Climate Museum of New York. Participating organizations are responsible for providing input about how they see a climate adapted future in their areas of expertise as well as helping to design and deliver the event.
