Canada’s Energy Sector Report – Clean Energy Canada
In March 2023, Clean Energy Canada released a report analyzing clean energy transition in Canada.
In order to reach the goal of having net-zero emissions in Canada by 2050, there will be a 1.5-million job decline in the fossil fuel sector. However, clean energy jobs are expected to grow 7% per year, resulting in a 2.2-million job increase.
The report also shows that regardless of Canada’s climate measures, fossil fuel jobs will decline. Already, clean energy jobs have surpassed fossil fuels. But Canada would be foolish to ignore the inevitable. The clean energy sector could be worth 63% more than our fossil fuel sector by 2025. Additionally, Canada is becoming a world leader in the electric vehicle industry.
It is a win-win for Canada to maintain climate policies that will enable us to achieve net-zero by 2050 (or earlier). There will be a huge growth in clean energy-related jobs, and we will be contributing to a brighter future for all.
A Pivotal Moment was produced by Clean Energy Canada. It is a climate and clean energy program within the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University. Their goal is to accelerate Canada’s clean energy transition by conducting research, convening influential dialogues, informing policy leadership and driving public engagement.
